News Georgia Justice: Georgia communities awarded federal grants for public safety
ALBANY, Ga. (AP) — Two Georgia communities are being awarded federal grants to fund programs aimed at improving public safety. The city of Albany in southwest Georgia has been approved to receive more than $60,300 for youth education programs administered by the Albany Police Department. They include a gang intervention counseling program as well as a teen police academy. Another grant of more than $44,600 is going to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office in Macon. That money will go toward a federally funded ballistics crime lab. The lab will be part of a network that allows local law enforcement agencies across the U.S. to share evidence related to gun crimes. Both grants come from the national Project Safe Neighborhoods program and were approved by the U.S. Justice Department.
